Here’s everything you need to know about how to create your dream Paris ballet photoshoot!
I truly believe that ballet tells a story through line, energy, and control. Somehow it distills emotion into something both visible and felt. And when you bring that expressive power into the streets, gardens, and quiet corners of Paris—something rare happens. The images become more than portraits; they become poetry in motion.
We’ve had the honor of photographing dancers from all over the world—some just beginning their training, others preparing for conservatory auditions or careers on stage. I’ve photographed baby ballerinas, pre-professional high school and college-aged ballerinas, and adults who pursue it as a hobby.
Honestly, ballet shoots are SO exciting for me. I love working with lines and silhouettes and watching dancers express themselves with more than just a smile…with their whole bodies!
And some come simply to reconnect with their love of movement. No matter your level, your background, or your reason for dancing, we believe your story deserves to be captured in a way that feels personal and powerful.
Why Paris for a ballet photoshoot?
Because Paris is the perfect place for a ballet session! There’s so much artistry already within French culture. We can guarantee you’ll have an unforgettable experience, regardless of whether it’s your first time in Paris or you’re simply celebrating all your hard work and years of experience dancing.

Start your ballet photoshoot With Intention, Not Just Aesthetics
Ballet sessions are among the most dynamic we shoot, because they begin with more than a Pinterest board or mood reference—they begin with important questions. Why do you dance? What part of that would you like to express in your session?
Maybe it’s confidence after years of work. Or maybe it’s resilience. We take time to understand the feeling behind your vision—so we’re not just documenting form, but emotion.
Ballet photoshoot Ideas & themes
There are so many possibilities for a ballet photoshoot!
- Imagine bringing pointe shoes and wearing a structured blazer and wide-legged pants—a departure from traditional ballet wear.
- What about a traditional tutu with a matching leotard in your favorite color?
- How about a long flowy gown for an elegant silhouette?
- What about dancing barefoot under a canopy of trees at Parc Monceau, with the leaves shifting gently above you?
What’s your vision? Are you swan lake or a force of nature?

Choosing the Right Location for your ballet photoshoot
This is your time to finally break out of the dance studio and take your skill to a gorgeous backdrop. The city of love has no shortage of landmarks. We can all imagine a top photo at the Eiffel tower but the most compelling ballet portraits often happen outside of a traditional dance venue. One of the good things about Paris is that there are so many less obvious location options. We love photographing dancers where movement contrasts or complements the surroundings—minimalist spaces that let the body speak, or ornate corners that mirror the drama of the pose.
Some of our favorite locations other than the iconic spots include:
- Quiet courtyards with clean lines and symmetry
- Stone staircases that allow for sweeping motion
- Passageways and arcades where light filters beautifully
- Unexpected industrial spaces where texture adds edge
- Open gardens at sunrise, soft and expansive
We’ll work with you to find spaces that match your concept—whether classic, contemporary, or something in between. At the end of the day, this is a celebration of your love of dance. And the location should reflect that. For that reason, it doesn’t need to be an iconic dance space to effectively express your passion for dance. The wonderful thing about Paris is that it’s full of intimate street corners for a more understated vibe.

What to Wear to your ballet photoshoot:
There’s no single “look” for a ballet photoshoot in Paris—what matters most is authenticity and intentionality. Bring 1–2 pieces that allow for free rein of movement and speak to your vision.
Some ideas to consider:
- A simple black or white leotard for clean lines
- A sheer skirt or long tulle overlay for softness
- A sleek jumpsuit or blazer for something bold and modern
- Layers that move—cardigans, overshirts, scarves
- Pointe shoes, soft shoes, or bare feet depending on the feel
We often recommend neutral tones with something rich and solid, especially against the natural and architectural textures of the beautiful city.

What You’ll Experience
Our ballet photoshoots are a collaboration. You bring the movement; we shape the setting, the pacing, the energy. We don’t over-direct or overly pose—we follow your rhythm, step in with guidance when needed, and give you space to explore your own language of motion.
You don’t need to be “on” every second. Some of the most impactful images come from the quiet rests between sequences—the hands falling, the focus in your eyes, the moment you breathe.
You’re the dance expert, so come prepared with some pose ideas you feel comfortable doing. We can make little tweaks and adjustments, but we don’t know as much about proper ballet technique as you do. So we’ll defer to you on some of the positions. Some of our favorite poses include arabesques (who doesn’t love a good arabesque!), grand jetés, and attitudes, or even just an elegant cambré.
We also love sitting poses that feature pointe shoes and soft ballet arms.

A Final Word for Dancers—and the Parents Who Cheer Them On
If you’re a dancer considering a shoot like this: know that it’s okay to take up space. To express something without needing a stage. To capture who you are now, not just what you’re training for. You don’t need to be a professional dancer.
And if you’re a parent reading this—thinking about a gift, a graduation moment, or a way to honor your child’s passion—you won’t regret investing in something this meaningful. We’ve seen parents moved to tears watching their daughters dance in the early morning light, or flipping through the final gallery weeks later. It’s not just the photos—it’s the memory of being fully present for something truly personal.
