As a Paris photographer, I have photographed proposals and engagement sessions at all four, and each gives a different feel: grand, cinematic, elegant or intimate.

One of my favorite things about an Eiffel Tower engagement is that it adapts to every mood. Seriously! It’s the best place for playful family dynamics, cinematic romance, empowered business headshots…you name it.
But I have to say, some of the most special portraits I’ve taken are of surprise proposals in front of the Eiffel Tower. I think I just love the drama of it. The distinct “Frenchness” of it. I could stare at these engagement photos forever.

The funny thing is, I’ve had so many clients dismiss the idea of an Eiffel Tower engagement session because it’s “stereotypical.” Then they wish they had at least a few photos with the tower afterwards. All four spots are within a short walk of each other, so one session can cover two or three of them.

2. Bir-Hakeim Bridge
Why we love it: A cinematic bridge in the heart of Paris lined with columns, with the Tower perfectly framed. It’s perfect in any way but can be an extra great choice for a rainy day Eiffel Tower engagement because it has a covered walkway. One of the best views of the tower is from the pont de bir hakeim with the Seine river banks just beyond.
3. Avenue de Camoëns
Why we love avenue de Camoens: Elevated, leafy, and slightly off‑beat—perfect for idyllic Tower vistas. This Eiffel Tower engagement spot is medium distance from the tower so we can do close up shots with just part of the tower or full frame shots with the entire tower in view. The balustrade in the foreground makes this spot so elegant.
4. Rue de Buenos-Ayres
Why we love this charming street: A pedestrian cobblestone street that leads straight toward the base of the Tower—Parisian fairy tale realness. This spot is really close to the Eiffel Tower, so we can’t fit all of it in the frame. But I LOVE the way it appears hazy and massive in the background of these portraits, with beautiful buildings on either side. A little more unique and understated than Trocadero, for example, but still an ideal spot for an Eiffel Tower engagement.

A Bit of Eiffel Tower History
La Dame de Fer (iron lady)—the Eiffel Tower—was built for the 1889 Exposition Universelle by Gustave Eiffel. It was the tallest man-made structure of its time at 300 meters, and it immediately wowed visitors with its iron lattice elegance. The tower’s shimmering lights, installed in 1985, sparkle every hour after dusk, turning Paris into a glittering dream. Think Ratatouille and Midnight in Paris!
I can actually see the Eiffel Tower from my Parisian apartment (which is a literal dream come true)! I still turn off all the lights at night to watch it sparkle, even after all these years. Like an Eiffel Tower engagement, it’s a magical moment I could never get tired of.
Fun fact:
The crazy thing that most people don’t know is that the Eiffel Tower was actually used as a radio transmitter to intercept enemy communications during World War I! So in addition to being a popular tourist attraction, its usefulness during WWI contributed to the tower being kept in Paris.
Otherwise it would have been dismantled after 20 years. Even though the French weren’t so sure about it at first, the public opinion shifted in favor of the tower.
