Indoor photo sessions are amongst my favorite types of photo sessions. Itโs seeing people in their natural environments. You get the good, the silly, the yikes-my-child-is-a-tornado-of-emotion-today, and the jumping-on-the-bed giggles.
Itโs the range of REAL that I love.
For starters, how do you even prep for an indoor session?
Well, whatโs awesome is that you already have (almost) everything already at your pretty fingertips.
You have the location and rain or shine, the shoot will go on!
1. To prep your house, choose a few locations around the house that youโd like to photograph in and that get GREAT light.
Rooms that are usually the most fun to shoot in are living rooms and bedrooms however, if youโre doing an activity together like baking a pie or making pancakes, why not head over into the kitchen?
Or if you have little kids, why not to a big bubble bath? Imagine rubber duckies, blowing bubbles, soft little robes, hysterical hairstyles. Itโs all in the name of fun!
2. Tidy up those locations โ recycle the magazines that youโve been planning to read for the last 17 months, dust, declutter. It doesnโt have to be perfect but the area shouldnโt be so distracting that it takes away from the emotions and fun in your photos.
3. Decorate your walls! Have any photos or art lying around that youโve been meaning to put up? DO IT. Having art on the walls makes home feel more โhome-yโ.
I absolutely LOVE seeing the art on our walls every day. When I see each photograph, I think of the moment that I took the photos, the people who are in the photos and how special they are to us. Why not have that feeling in your home with your own artwork/travel collections? And bonus, it looks GOOD.
The one thing you should get that you may not already have at home?
4. Flowers. Iโm not sure how but flowers seem to transform a room from banal to luxurious in an instant. It may just be my obsession with them but flowers make me feel calm, happy and a bit spoiled. You can pick some from your garden or from a local florist inexpensively here in Paris.
What I would recommend is creating your own bouquet rather than the pre-made style at the florists. Stick with 1-2 types of flowers to keep it simple.
Cost effective tip: stay in season. Flowers in season are less expensive and usually local to your area/region thus more environmentally friendly because of less transport.
So how easy is that?? And how perfect for a cold day when you just want to snuggle inside with eachother and still get some beautiful photographic memories out of it? And whatโs so lovely is that itโs not only reserved for families but for couples too.
How about a Saturday morning pancake breakfast?
Or a stay-cation photo session?
The possibilities are ENDLESS!
