This fall solo photoshoot in Paris with Camille was about SO much more than beautiful photographs in a beautiful city.

It was about confidence. Rediscovering yourself. Celebrating the person you are right now, while making space for the person you’re becoming.

And in Camille’s case, it was also about pastries. Gorgeous Parisian cafés. Charming streets. And a little culinary storytelling.

Because Camille isn’t just someone who loves a good croissant (although, SAME). She’s a talented pastry chef and baking instructor who even travels to Paris to teach baking classes.

How amazing is that?!

For her early November photo session, we wanted to bring together two important parts of her life: her journey toward feeling confident again and her genuine passion for baking.

The result? A warm, feminine, slightly editorial portrait session on Île Saint-Louis, with plenty of personality and some wonderfully cozy autumn atmosphere.

Before the Paris Solo Photoshoot: Getting to Know Camille

At Katie Donnelly Photography, every session begins long before we take the first photograph.

We ask our clients about their personalities, their hopes for the session, and what they want their photographs to mean years from now.

This is especially important for solo sessions. We want the images to feel completely and unmistakably YOU.

And Camille’s answers gave us such a beautiful starting point.

Starting With a Few Personal Questions

First, we asked Camille to describe herself in three words.

Her answer?

“Determined, passionate, thoughtful.”

What a lovely combination of qualities.

But it was her answer to our next question that really helped us understand what this session meant to her.

When you look back in 20 years, what parts of yourself do you want to see reflected back at you?

Camille told us:

“This session has important meaning for me, because the past couple of years, I have been working on finding myself again.”

She wanted to look and feel beautiful in her photographs. Confident. Feminine. Strong.

Our Client’s Style and Vision:

Her ideal style was slightly moody, but not overly dark. She also loved warmth, softness, and a sense of joy.

And we thought that combination was BEAUTIFUL.

Because confidence doesn’t have to look one particular way.

It might be a bold look into the camera, a quiet smile, or simply feeling comfortable enough to forget you’re in front of the camera.

A solo photoshoot can be an incredibly empowering experience. Whether you’re beginning a new chapter, reconnecting with yourself, or celebrating something you’ve worked hard for, there’s something special about making time just for YOU.

You don’t need a wedding, an engagement, or another person beside you to make photographs worth keeping.

And that’s one of the reasons we love solo portrait photography so much. It’s a wonderful option for solo travellers, whether you’re planning your first trip to Paris or returning to a city you already adore.

A Pastry Chef in Paris? YES PLEASE.

There was another part of Camille’s story we couldn’t wait to incorporate.

Her love of baking.

Camille is the talented woman behind Baker Street Society, where she shares her passion for pastry, recipes, and teaching.

And she sometimes travels to Paris to teach baking classes!

We LOVE that her work brings her back to a city with such a rich pastry culture.

When we asked what else she wanted us to capture, she told us:

“I would also like to capture the emotion and joy of my love for baking and food. Because I’m a pastry chef and baking instructor (who really loves Paris), this seemed like the perfect place to capture that love.”

Exactly.

Camille wanted photographs that could represent her personally AND professionally. Images that showed the woman behind the business, not just the business itself.

She planned to use her favorites on her Baker Street Society website, Instagram, and articles featuring her time in Paris.

We love when our clients have such a clear idea of how they’ll enjoy their photographs. It helps us create something beautiful, but also genuinely useful.

Camille’s Solo Photoshoot Inspiration & Vision Board

Camille also sent us inspiration photographs before her session.

And can we just say how much we LOVE when clients do this?!

Whether it’s a Pinterest board, saved Instagram photographs, or a few favorite images, visual references are incredibly helpful.

Not because we want to recreate somebody else’s photographs.

Quite the opposite.

We want to understand what you’re responding to.

Is it the light? The movement? The composition? A certain expression? The way a photograph feels relaxed but still beautifully styled?

Camille loved feminine portraits with a little editorial mood. Beautiful café scenes. Natural movement through Parisian streets. And photographs that felt elegant without becoming overly formal.

Her references gave us a creative starting point.

Our job was to take those ideas and make something new, fresh, and personal to HER.

Because your photographs should never feel like a copy of somebody else’s Paris experience.

That’s one of the best things about working with the right photographer. Your inspiration becomes a starting point for creating timeless images that reflect your own story.

Here are the references Camille gave us:

She loved the warm rich tones of this family café shot.

She was drawn to how free and beautiful this black-and-white portrait felt.

And she told us that she loves the old doors in Paris, like this one here.

Honestly, we were spoiled to have so many ideas to work with!

Planning the Perfect Paris Photoshoot Location: Île Saint-Louis

Camille had several ideas for her dream Paris photoshoot, but she wasn’t entirely sure which neighborhood would bring them all together.

She loved Saint-Germain-des-Prés and the Latin Quarter, especially their charming streets and beautiful cafés.

But she also had a few very specific requests.

Paris Café Photos With a Pastry-Lover’s Twist

Camille told us:

“I love cafe shots. I have seen several where people are sitting in front of a cafe in cute chairs, and I love those!”

She also loved the idea of being photographed through a café window.

And naturally, she wanted pastries involved.

Croissants. Hot chocolate. Macarons. Maybe a few particularly beautiful French pastries.

She even offered to pick some up from Stohrer before the session.

A pastry chef planning her Paris portraits around pastries?

We were absolutely on board.

And early November is SUCH a lovely time for this kind of photography.

Paris is moving from late autumn into winter. The days are shorter, the air is cooler, and the city takes on a softer atmosphere.

There’s something especially inviting about a neighborhood café during these months. A hot chocolate, a pastry, and a little table beside the window.

Honestly, we could happily spend an entire rainy afternoon there.

If you’re visiting during the cooler months, take a look at our blog, Best Indoor Escapes for Rainy Days in Paris, for more ways to enjoy the city when the weather encourages you to slow down.

Beautiful Streets, Produce Markets, and the Seine River

Camille also dreamed of natural street portraits, ideally with gorgeous Parisian architecture in the background.

She loved the idea of a photograph on a crosswalk. Something spontaneous that captured both her personality and the city.

And then there was her request for a produce market.

“I like shots in front of a produce stand or of me picking some fruit to buy. These are more baker-related than personal, but it’s a dream shot for me!”

We thought this was such a fun way to incorporate her profession.

Produce stands bring wonderful color and texture into photographs. And for someone who works with ingredients every day, the connection feels completely natural.

Finally, Camille wanted photographs along the Seine.

“For me, the essence of Paris is the Seine and the old bridges.”

We couldn’t agree more.

And that’s where Île Saint-Louis came in.

Why Île Saint-Louis Is Perfect for a Paris Solo Photoshoot

Located in the heart of Paris, Île Saint-Louis is one of our favorite neighborhoods for portraits.

It’s a small island in the Seine, just beside Île de la Cité. And it offers an incredible variety of backgrounds within a relatively compact area.

Think historic buildings, elegant doorways, little boutiques, charming street corners, and inviting cafés.

The surrounding streets also offer opportunities for colorful produce displays and food-related details when the right stalls are available.

And just a short walk away, you have the Seine River, its stone embankments, and those unmistakable Paris bridges.

It’s a photographer’s DREAM for creating variety without constantly changing neighborhoods.

For anyone who loves a typical parisian street, cobblestone streets, and beautiful settings, the island is a great spot to explore. There’s even a beautiful bridge nearby for those classic riverside portraits.

What Makes Île Saint-Louis Unique?

Unlike some of the city’s iconic landmarks, this neighborhood offers a more intimate atmosphere. It’s a popular location for Paris photoshoots, and for good reason.

We can move from a cozy café portrait to something more editorial on a quiet street. Then, a few minutes later, create an entirely different feeling beside the river.

Everything is within walking distance, making it easy to enjoy different locations without spending your session traveling across the city.

As a Paris photographer, finding the perfect location is about much more than choosing a pretty background. We consider the light, atmosphere, and variety each neighborhood offers.

Île Saint-Louis is a personal favorite because it brings together so many of the best spots for portraits in one lovely area.

You can see more of the neighborhood in Sheila and Jeff’s Paris Couples Photoshoot on Île Saint-Louis.

And of course, explore the finished photographs in Camille Brown’s Paris Solo Photoshoot Portfolio.

Before the Shoot: How the KDP Photography Team Prepared

Once we understood Camille’s vision, it was time for the behind-the-scenes planning.

And there’s quite a bit of it!

At the beginning of each week, our Katie Donnelly Photography team meets to discuss our upcoming sessions.

We review client questionnaires, inspiration images, location preferences, wardrobe ideas, and any personal details that might shape the photographs.

For Camille, we had two creative goals.

First, portraits that felt feminine, confident, timeless, and slightly editorial.

Second, photographs that celebrated her love of pastry and her professional identity.

The challenge was making those ideas feel like one cohesive story rather than a collection of unrelated images.

We wanted a gallery that moved naturally between personal portraits, café scenes, food-related moments, and the Paris surroundings she loved.

Preparing for a November Photoshoot in Paris

And then there was the season.

Early November in Paris can be wonderful for photography. The autumn colors are lingering, the light is soft, and the city feels a little quieter after the busy summer months.

But we’re also getting closer to winter.

Which means cooler temperatures, occasional rain, and shorter daylight hours.

Our team considers all of this when planning a fall photoshoot, whether it’s a full portrait experience or one of our fall mini sessions.

For more advice on dressing for the season, check out our Ultimate Fall Packing Guide for Paris.

We look at the route, available natural light, places to shelter if needed, and how to make the most of our time together.

Early mornings can offer beautiful golden light, while overcast November days create wonderfully soft conditions for portraits.

As a Parisian photographer, knowing the best time to photograph each neighborhood makes such a difference. We also choose a convenient meeting point and plan our route so everything feels relaxed.

A neighborhood like Île Saint-Louis gives us wonderful flexibility. We can work near café awnings or windows when needed, with historic architecture providing a perfect backdrop.

Our team gives great attention to the details throughout the entire process, from the first planning conversation to the final photographs.

The goal is to do the preparation beforehand so our clients can arrive, relax, and enjoy the experience.

And Camille had already given us such a thoughtful vision to work with.

Now it was time to bring it to life.

The Day Of: Making Paris Solo Photoshoot Magic

And finally, the fun part!

Camille’s early November session was all about bringing together the different sides of her personality.

Determined. Passionate. Thoughtful.

Warm and feminine, but with a little mood and editorial elegance.

And one of the sweetest details?

Camille brought her mom along for the photoshoot!

We think it’s wonderful when a client brings someone they trust for a little company and moral support.

Solo photography doesn’t mean you have to do absolutely everything alone.

You’re the star of the photographs, of course. But if having your partner, mom, sister, or a close friend nearby helps you feel more comfortable, they’re welcome to come along.

Sometimes a familiar face makes all the difference.

Cozy Paris Café Portraits and a Love of Pastry

For Camille, café photographs were a big part of her vision.

Rather than simply sitting at a table and smiling at the camera, we wanted to capture the little gestures that make these photographs feel natural.

Holding a warm drink. Looking toward the street. Enjoying a pastry. Taking a quiet moment at a table.

These details tell a story without needing an elaborate pose.

And for Camille, food wasn’t just a cute Parisian accessory.

It’s part of who she is.

Her pastry-inspired portraits connected her love of Paris with the work she’s so passionate about.

There’s also something wonderful about photographing cafés at this time of year.

The contrast between chilly streets and warm interiors creates such a lovely atmosphere. Beautiful windows, reflections, small tables, and all those familiar details of Parisian café life.

It all feels particularly fitting for late autumn.

Exploring the Streets of Île Saint-Louis

One of our favorite things about a Paris solo photoshoot is how much personality can come through in the simplest moments.

  • Walking down a street.
  • Turning toward the camera.
  • Pausing in front of a beautiful doorway.
  • Looking into a shop window.

These little moments create opportunities for genuine expression and movement.

And no, you do not need to know how to pose!

That’s our job.

We guide our clients throughout their sessions, offering direction when needed and giving them room to relax into the experience.

Sometimes we adjust the smallest details. A shoulder. A hand. The direction of someone’s gaze.

Other times, we encourage movement and see what happens naturally.

Capturing candid moments is one of the best ways to show someone’s personality. And it’s often when our clients are simply enjoying themselves that the magic of Paris really comes through.

For Camille, we wanted to balance elegant, composed portraits with something softer and more spontaneous.

Photographs where she looked beautiful, certainly.

But more importantly, photographs where she could recognize herself.

The historic streets of Île Saint-Louis were perfect for this, offering beautiful backgrounds without overpowering the person in front of our camera.

A Paris Solo Photoshoot That Celebrates YOU

When we asked Camille to describe her dream photograph, she said:

“Timeless, elegant, and me looking beautiful, like I really feel it and exude it.”

We keep coming back to that last part.

Like I really feel it.

Because that’s what we want from a solo portrait session.

Not simply a photograph where everything looks perfect, but one where you genuinely feel comfortable and proud of the person looking back at you.

And that doesn’t mean every photograph has to be serious or sophisticated.

There’s room for laughter. For playfulness. For trying something a little different.

Sometimes the most empowering thing is simply allowing yourself to be the center of attention for a morning.

No one else to organize. No one else to worry about.

Just you.

Whether it’s your first time being professionally photographed or you’ve done it before, we want you to have so much fun along the way.

And that’s exactly how it should be.

Choosing Artwork at the Studio Viewing Session

One of our favorite parts of the entire KDP experience happens after the photoshoot.

A few hours after the session, we welcome our clients into our central Paris studio for their cinematic viewing and ordering appointment.

This is where you get to see the photographs we’ve created together.

And for a solo photoshoot, that first viewing can be particularly special.

Seeing yourself through a professional photographer’s lens is a different experience from taking a quick selfie or scrolling through photographs on your phone.

You notice expressions, details, and moments you might otherwise overlook.

We help you review your strongest portraits, compare favorites, and decide which photographs you want to keep.

Our goal is to make the process personal and enjoyable, rather than leaving you with hundreds of images to sort through on your own.

Digital Photographs for Camille’s Website and Social Media

Camille had a particularly clear idea of how she wanted to use her photographs.

She told us she was very interested in digital images.

Her plan was to use them throughout her Baker Street Society website and on Instagram at @bakerstreetsociety.

She wanted profile photographs, images for articles, and portraits that could help tell the story of her connection to Paris.

And we LOVE that.

Professional photographs can be incredibly valuable for entrepreneurs, creatives, and small business owners.

Especially when your business is closely connected to your personality and passion.

For Camille, these portraits could introduce her audience to another side of the woman behind the recipes and baking classes.

If you’re thinking about refreshing your own professional portraits, our blog Why You Should Update Your Professional Headshots Often explores why keeping your images current can make such a difference.

Artwork We Offer at KDP

Of course, we’re also big believers that beautiful photographs deserve to exist beyond a computer screen.

At Katie Donnelly Photography, we specialize in museum-quality artwork designed to be enjoyed for generations.

Our collection includes premium acrylic wall portraits, framed fine art canvases, hardwood-framed archival photographs, smaller archival prints, and hand-designed fine art albums printed on archival papers.

We use archival materials and protective finishes designed to preserve the beauty of your photographs over time.

And for clients visiting us from abroad, finished artwork can be shipped worldwide.

Artwork orders also include their associated digital files, so clients can enjoy their photographs both at home and digitally.

For a solo photoshoot, we think displaying a portrait of yourself can be particularly meaningful.

Because why should the photographs on your walls only celebrate other people?

Your own story deserves a place there, too.

Camille, thank you for trusting us with such a personal chapter of your life.

We loved learning about your passion for baking, your connection to Paris, and the woman you wanted these photographs to celebrate.

We hope that when you look back at these portraits twenty years from now, you see exactly what you hoped for.
