Is there anything as sweet as spending part of your vacation with sand between your toes? I think not.

Since childhood I’ve loved the water, running in and out, letting the waves wash over you, being covered in sand, breathing in the salty air as you lay doused in sunlight... all of it is divine, for some reason my thoughts and my soul feel cleaner after a trip to the beach.

Each time we are in Bordeaux we make it a habit to visit the beach for at least a few hours, even during the winter. Cap Ferret and Arcachon are the two closest and most beautiful choices. Last week, we went to the beach twice, both in Cap Ferret. The beautiful thing about the Cap Ferret area is that in some beaches you have to go through campgrounds and forest-like areas to get to the actual sand part. This creates this incredible smell of pine and nature that evolves more and more into sea salt and ocean as you walk onto the sand. It brings me back to my childhood where my family spent our summers camping in Maine. I can’t help but smile thinking about it.
